1990, dungeness

i counted 77 blooms on the early daffodils i planted two years ago. they are multiplying very slowly. at the water's edge the sea kale is sprouting. the plants have small leaves of two or three inches; they are a deep purple.
the storms have totally altered the coastline. last summer it was a straight shingle bar; now it's deeply indented with bays and ridges, which have collected piles of flotsam.
phone call from nyc to say war requiem closed after one week.
