a juxtaposition of the journal entries of derek jarman from his books "modern nature" and "smiling in slow motion" and my garden journal entries from my first gardens in portland, oregon

i met derek jarman in the summer of 1991, thus began a friendship and correspondence that lasted until his death in 1994

i knew nothing about gardening until then and set about it with a passion upon the purchase of our first home in 1998

i cannot look at a plant or flower without thinking of derek
